Fort Hunter Liggett is at the south end of Monterey County. I was on a wildflower hunt, but it was one of those years when there was not a flower to be seen. After a couple of hours driving back and forth, I stopped to eat a sandwich. As I looked into the western sky, I observed a cloud turning color and quickly started walking around, positioning the trees nearby in front of the cloud. This beautiful Valley Oak was the third tree. It was standing there waiting for me.
