A predawn trip to Carmel Mission to shoot the famous Basilica Doors and Bell Tower was a bust. Then a passing glance at the main entrance door to the book store revealed a rare moment of serendipity – a subject in perfect lighting ready to be photographed. I love the undulating vertical lines of the door and the spider web of Bougainvillea branches that frame it. The lines on the door draw the viewer’s eyes up to the bright red flowers that give this image its timeless appeal.
